Akshi’s Story, New Eyes

Akshi, who was born blind, arrived at Mukti as a tiny two-year-old.
Now she lives with her sisters in the Bougainvillea family, our home for our visually challenged children, and is in 7th grade at Manorama Memorial High School.

Akshi is an avid reader and especially loves to read short stories in braille. They open a new world for her and she gets absorbed in the stories. She also has a lovely voice and loves to sing, her passion is to be a singer. As well as being a good student, she is active and energetic. Akshi has a kind heart and often lends a helping hand to others.

“Initially I was scared before the surgery but God gave me the courage to be strong and face the situation” — Akshi

Recently there was infection in Akshi’s eyelid which needed surgery. In a subsequent procedure, artificial eyeballs have been fixed. Now Aarti can open and close her eyelids and move her new eyes. Her face looks radiant with a new smile sparkling on it. Her appearance has been transformed and she loves to hear all the complements she is receiving. She is thankful to God and Mukti for being with her every step of the way. Akshi says, “Initially I was scared before the surgery but God gave me the courage to be strong and face the situation” and “Mukti is my home and my family. God has been kind to me and blessed me with everything.”
